Thursday, April 30th, 2009An Apron to Adore
Wednesday, April 22nd, 2009One of my favorite aprons from A is for Apron. This was so quick and easy–and yes, another fabric flower for embellishment. Tutorial here.

Slouchy Bags–Sew Fun!
Tuesday, April 21st, 2009I just made this messenger bag from Cindy Taylor Oates’ book, Slouchy Bags. I am loving the way it turned out with the Zig-Zag stripe from the Hey Sugar line. It’s a perfect size–fits a three-ring binder perfectly. Too bad I made it as a gift–I’m covetous! I may have to make another just for me. For a tutorial on how to make the flower, click here.

A Week of Sharing, Part 2
Sunday, April 19th, 2009Just a Note: I apologize to a few who brought in projects but are not pictured here. We had a few technical difficulties with the camera and our last few pictures were very blurred. Thanks to everyone for sharing!
A Week of Sharing, Part 1

Loving Silhouette Kids
Monday, March 16th, 2009We recently received Silhouette Kids from Michael Miller. We made up this row quilt with some of the pieces, and it is one of my favorites right now. It took about 20 minutes to sew together, and Dixie did an amazing job with the quilting. Add to that our new black and white diamond minky backing, polka dot binding, and this one’s a keeper. What a fun baby gift! (Babies see black and white patterns best, you know). And, if you can’t make it in to the store, you can always order it here and we will ship it to you!

Amazing Talent
Tuesday, February 24th, 2009Linda and I just went to the monthly Alpine Quilt Guild meeting. Every time I go I am blown away by the talent of these women! It is so fun just to go and soak it all in. They always have show and tell and then a speaker of some sort. Anyone is welcome, so go ahead and attend just for fun. You will definitely come away awed and inspired. They meet the last Tuesday of each month at the red brick church behind the Peppermint Place in Alpine.
Click here to see a great slideshow of the quilts that were shared at this meeting.
We’re On Our Way!
Monday, February 23rd, 2009I just began cutting kits for our Block of the Month:

Linda has sewn the first month’s block, and it turned out really well! (Sorry, no peeking yet). I’m so excited for this quilt! Get ready for some fun….
A New Appreciation for Applique
Friday, February 20th, 2009
Jill Finley from Jillily Studio was in the Shop last week for a demonstration on her applique technique. Her quilts are beautiful, her techniques are brilliant. She has had several of her patterns in well-known quilting magazines, and has developed her own water soluble applique glue. I learned SO much from her demonstration! It makes me want to go ahead and tackle a couple of the applique quilts that I’ve been putting off for years.
We have patterns and kits for the two quilts that Jill showed in her demonstration. The one on the left is “Cherries Jubilee” and the one on the right is “Trellis.” Jill will also be offering a spring class in our store for “Trellis.”
Crazy About Pennie Pockets
Tuesday, February 10th, 2009Natilie recently discovered a fun new website from Moda. It’s the Moda Bakeshop, and they have all sorts of fun projects that use layer cakes, charm packs, sweet rolls, etc. My favorites right now are the Pennie Pockets. We’ve got some hanging in the store, and I’m in the process of making several for friends, teachers, and Visiting Teaching Valentine’s gifts. They are quick, easy, and oh-so-cute! They make up in about 30 minutes (less if you do it assembly-line style) and are great filled with your favorite treats. Try some for yourself today!
