Another Block of the Month Option

Monday, January 23rd, 2012

Farmer’s Wife Club

  1.  Cost:  $40.00 -  Includes book
  2. Participants will need to purchase their own fabrics for the quilt.  There are TONS of color options to choose from!  (Just Google “Farmer’s Wife Quilt Images” to see what I mean).  We will put together fat quarter bundles in different colorways for you to choose from if you’d like help getting started.
  3. We will demonstrate a new technique each month.  We will begin with the easiest blocks, and work our way through new techniques until we finish with the most difficult blocks.  If you don’t want to make all 110 blocks for the queen-sized quilt, you can choose one of the other sizes and do fewer blocks per month.  Each participant will set her own goal as to how many blocks she would like to complete each month.
  4. Each participant will be issued a “punch card” the first month of the club.  You will get 1 punch if you come to your class on your assigned day, and 1 punch if your previous month’s blocks are finished when you come in (bring them with you for show and tell each month).  Punch cards can be redeemed at the end of the Farmer’s Wife Series for a 1% discount per punch on one item–a one-time discount of up to 22% off one item of your choice.  Anyone who completes at least 50 blocks will be entered to win free quilting on their completed Farmer’s Wife Sampler (Free quilting is for an overall pattern only.  Custom order will require payment for the difference between the cost of the job and what it would cost for an overall pattern).
  5. There are no penalties for not finishing your block each month.  However, if you want to earn a larger discount, you will want to come in person to your class, because nobody else can get your card punched for you but you!
  6. Demonstrations on each month’s blocks will be given at 2:00 the 2nd  Tuesday, 10:00 on the 2nd  Thursday,  or 1:00 the 2nd Saturday of each month.  If you can’t make it to your own class, you are welcome to come to one of the other classes.
  7. Classes start the 8th, 10th, or 13th of March.
  8. We will have a Farmer’s Wife show and tell party one month after the last blocks are demonstrated.

Stop in soon to register in person or call 801-492-7929 to register by phone.

2012 Block of the Month: Solids Sampler

Thursday, January 19th, 2012

Introducing our 2012 Block of the Month:  Solids Sampler

Here are the details:

  1. Cost:  $35.00 – This price includes pattern book and fabric for all sampler blocks and the color portion of each pinwheel.
  2. Participants will need to buy 3 yards of background fabric to complete the pinwheels.  This background fabric will also be used for the sashings and outer border.  Participants will also need to purchase a binding (1/2 yard)  and backing (3 ½ yards for horizontal seam and 4 ½ yards for vertical seam).   If you would like a binding kit, we will offer those as well.  You can choose which solid fabric you’d like to use for your background fabric.  We will have 2 or 3 options displayed by the first of April for you to see, then you can pre-order the color you’d like.  Or, you can be creative and choose your own!  You won’t need the background fabric until our May block.
  3. Pick up your block kit on the 1st Saturday or the 1st Monday of each month.
  4. Each participant will be issued a “punch card” with their first block.  You will get 1 punch if you come to pick up your new block on the assigned day, and 1 punch if your previous month’s blocks are finished when you come in.  Punch cards can be redeemed at the end of the Block of the Month series for a 1% discount per punch on one item–a one-time discount of up to 22% off one item of your choice.
  5. There are no penalties for not finishing your block each month, and yes, you may have a friend pick up your block for you with no penalty.  However, if you want to earn a larger discount, you will want to come in person, because nobody can get your card punched for you but you!  Those who get at least 18 punches on their card will be entered in a drawing to win next year’s Block of the Month kit for free.
  6. Free demonstrations on each month’s blocks will be given at 10:00, 11:30, and 1:00 on the 1st Saturday or Monday.
  7. Pick up your first block on March 3rd or 5th.

This quilt was SO much fun to make, and is easily adaptable to different looks.  Pick a different background for a completely different look, or buy a few extra masculine solids and eliminate the pinks and purples to make it more masculine.  The book shows several different ways to arrange the blocks, so you have options there as well.

Stop in soon to sign up, or call 801-492-7929 to register by phone.

Pinwheels in My Garden November Block PATTERN CORRECTION

Thursday, November 10th, 2011

There is a correction on the pattern for this month’s hourglass blocks.  You only need to cut 22 – 5″ squares rather than 44.  That will make two each of 11 colors rather than 4 each.

Pinwheels in My Garden August Block Correction

Saturday, August 6th, 2011

August’s cutting directions tell you to make pinwheels from two reds. Instead of the tone on tone red with polka dots and scribbles, use the MOTTLED BLUE. Also, make sure you are sewing your quarter-square triangles the same way you did for your last pinwheels so all pinwheels will go the same direction. When you are finished you should have 4 pinwheels each of red, blue, green, and pink.
