Get together with friends and sew some great projects!  We will make a zipper pouch, a notebook cover, and stenciled word pillows.  Once you’ve learned the basics, there’s no limit to the options for personalizing each item.  You can make them over and over for gifts, etc.  Supply fee includes your choice of fabric for each project and all notions needed to complete the project.  Bring your own sewing machine if possible!  Ages 12-18.

Skill Builder Series

If you are in love with quilting and want to improve your skills, our Skill Builder Series is just right for you. It is being taught by Eva Garlick, an expert quilter and masterful teacher.

Two Sessions Available: 

 1.       Wednesdays from 10 am – 12, Sept 11 through Oct 30.  We will skip two weeks on Oct 16 and 23.

2.       Thursdays from 7-9 pm – September 12-October 24.  We will skip one week on October 17.

  • Class size is limited to 8 students. A minimum of 4 students will be needed to hold the class.
  • Class fee: All 6 classes $75 + required kit ($26.99).  $15 for single classes as space permits.
  • Students will use blocks made in this class to complete a table runner.  Black and white fabrics, backing, batting, and binding are included in the kit.  Students will pick their choice of solid for the accent color.  The cost of this solid is already included in the price of the kit.

Precision Piecing  - September 11, 12
Learn to cut and sew accurately with confidence. Find your perfect ¼” and make those points match. Learn about how thread and needle choices make a difference. Among other things learn the finer points of pressing. Speed things up with strip piecing and chain piecing. This is a great class for the beginner quilter and the quilter that wants to hone her skills.

Make Friends with Triangles – September 18, 19
Triangles are everywhere from flying geese, to stars and pinwheels. You can’t get away from them so make friends with them. Explore methods of cutting and sewing triangles accurately!!

Happy to Applique by Machine  - September 25, 26
Raw edge or turned under- machine applique is here to stay! Never avoid applique again. Learn more than one slick method to make your machine applique smooth and your stitches invisible!

Paper Piecing Primer – October 2, 3
Who was the crazy person that thought you could sew a block from the back side on paper??!! Have you had trouble seeing it in the past? Just can’t wrap your head around it? Come to this class and clear it all up once and for all! With a few tips and tricks and a little practice you can do this and even learn to like it!

Blocks 301: Stretch a Little – October 9, 10
You have the basics down now – your ¼” is perfect, your points match and your triangles are ‘square.’ With a few tips and a little practice you can move to a new level. Think piecing a curve is next to impossible. Think again. It’s really so easy. Make some blocks that go beyond ‘nice’ to ‘really’ cool!

Great Endings: Borders and Bindings – Oct 24 (Thurs) and Oct 30 (Wed)
Borders and bindings are the frame for your work of art. Make it them count and know how to make them fit. Learn everything you need to know to do it right!

The Basics of Bargello

Tuesdays from 1-3 beginning September 10

Do you have a bargello pattern that you’ve been dying to try but just can’t quite talk yourself into?  Vonda will walk you through the basics of bargello in this ongoing class.  Bring your pattern and we can help you choose fabric, or buy a kit for our “Bonjour Mon Ami” quilt.  Class cost is $20 for the first 2 weeks, and then $10 per week after that.  Continue coming to class until your quilt top is finished.  Optional kit is $110, which makes the 71” x 80” quilt pictured.


Quick and Easy Chevron Quilt

Thursdays September 12 and 19 from 10 am until noon.

Chevrons quilts are very popular, and this is a project for quilters of all skill levels.  It includes rotary cutting and strip piecing, with no triangles!  Enjoy completing an entire quilt top in a short amount of time.  Cost is $15 for the class plus $42.99 for required kit.

Asteria Block of the Month

We are excited about our new Block of the Month Program, “Asteria.”  Asteria is the Greek Goddess of the Stars. This stunning new block of the month quilt features a variety of stars made from gorgeous blue and white batiks. You’ll be amazed as the combination of 4-patches, half-square triangle, and other simple blocks combine to form this masterpiece. Our Asteria block of the month kits will feature all the same batiks used in the original quilt pictured for your quilt top and binding plus pattern. As an extra bonus each month you’ll receive a free quilt pattern featuring a new way to use your quilt block – that’s a total of nine quilt patterns!  Your finished quilt will measure 106″ x 106″. Quilt is designed for the advanced beginner quilter and beyond.

Pincushion Club

Our Pincushion Club meets the 3rd Saturday of every month.  Join us on September 21 to make a Bumblebee Wristlet Pincushion with Kim.  Instruction will be from 9-10 a.m.  Feel free to stay longer to finish if needed.  We have openings in this club for anyone who is interested.  Call the store soon to sign up.  Class fee is $5 and the kit for this pincushion is only $5.  Sew much fun!!!



Miniature Quilt of the Month Club

Each month, you will be making a miniature quilt from the book 101 Fabulous Small Quilts. You will pick up each month’s kit on the 4th Saturday of every month beginning September 28.  Instruction will be given from 9:30 – 10:00.  You are welcome to bring your machine and stay and sew for the morning, or take the kit home and work on it there.  Cost to join the club is $35, which includes the book.  Each month, you will be required to buy the monthly kit for $25.  Kits will include all the fabric for the top, back, and binding of each quilt.  Our first quilt will be a mini granny square quilt called “Friends Remembered” (p. 186 in the Book) that finishes at 16” x 20”.  Colors will be the same as our store sample “Mini Granny” quilt by Butterfly Kisses. *Please note, the size for this miniature quilt club quilt is smaller than our store sample.


Take the Just Sew Pinterest Challenge!

The Pinterest Challenge is really REALLY simple.  Basically it’s just a call to action.  We all pin and pin and now it’s time to do something with all those lovely pins!   Here’s how it works:

  • The Challenge begins September 1 and runs through November 30.
  • Join our Flickr Group by emailing your request to justsew {at} live dot com or by visiting http://www.flickr.com/groups/justsewpinterestchallenge/ and requesting an invitation to join the group.
  • Pick your Pinspiration project – for the Just Sew Pinterest challenge, it MUST be a fabric related project.
  • Make the project.
  • Post a picture of your project on our Flickr page so all the participants can see and enjoy your creativity.
  • Repeat the process.
  • Have fun! No matter what the project is – it can be small, big, super-sized, seasonal, decorative, crafty – anything goes…just as long as it uses fabric!  Think of all the Christmas Gifts you can get done in the next three months!  On December 1, a random winner will be selected from all the photos in our Flickr Group.   The more projects you make, the bigger chance you’ll have to win the prize…a $50 Gift Certificate from Just Sew.  Remember:  Only one picture per project may be posted.

Fall 2012 Class Schedule

We are excited to announce that we are teaming up with The Sewing
Academy to bring children’s sewing classes to Just Sew! Children and teens love to express their creativity by sewing clothing they can wear, and they are learning a valuable life-long skill. You will be delighted how quickly your child can pick up the skills associated with sewing, and have FUN in the process.

  • One sewing machine per student
  • Classes are for 6 years old and older
  • Small class sizes – 8 students maximum
  • Holiday/Summer camps
  • $15 per hour, $12.50 with friend or $10 perstudent if signed up with 2 or
    more friends
  • Weekly, every-other-week, monthly, and on-demand classes available
  • Students provide their own fabric and thread and use our sewing machines and
    supplies. (Just Sew will be giving a 20% discount to students on their fabric!)

Tuesdays, October 16 & 30, November 6 – 2:00-3:30 p.m.

Learn three techniques and end up with a fantastic
table runner or wall hanging. You can take all three sessions to make the table
runner, or pick one session only for practice with a particular

October 16: We will learn to make pinwheels,
stitching and pressing for the most precision product.

October 30: Learn how to make the scallop border on the peppermint fizz quilt or a quilt of your choice. You will learn how to use this technique on any quilt of your choice. It is an applique technique, either hand or machine.

November 6: Learn how to add piping to your bindings or borders. Learn how to use the piping ruler to make your own piping.

Script Applique – Vonda

Learn to put words on your quilts. This method is done with needle-turn applique. Learn how to get the fonts off the computer, enlarge and get ready to applique. A kit can be purchased for $6 for the “JOY” pillow or you can bring your own project.

Paper Piecing Basics – Alice
Thursday, October 25 – 10:00-11:30 a.m.
$15 – Includes patterns & kits for 3 pincushions

Does paper piecing intimidate you? Once you learn a few basic techniques, you will have confidence to tackle many different paper-piecing projects. In this 90 minute class, we will go over the basics and make three different paper-pieced pincushions.

Stenciled Silhouette Pillow – Alice
Thursday, November 1 – 6:00-7:30 p.m.

$15 – Includes pillow form and fabric for 12” pillow

Stenciled Pillows are popping up everywhere! Alice will show you how easy it is to make your own with a freezer paper stencil and a little craft paint. We will provide a pattern for the bird silhouette, or get creative and bring your own silhouette stencil.

A new twist on an old favorite! Use a quick-turn method to make this fabulous hot pad that is sure to dress up any kitchen! Great for teacher or neighbor gifts!

Lined Christmas Stockings – Linda

This is a quick and easy method for making lined Christmas stockings. The stocking, lining, and cuff are made in one easy step. All you need is a fat quarter for the stocking and another for the lining. Make them small to stuff a quick gift in or large enough for Santa to fill.

Buggy Barn – Vonda

Choose any of our many buggy-barn patterns. The girls at the shop will help you pick out fat quarters to go with your project. In the class you will learn to stack and cut your fabric then shuffle to get the buggy-barn technique. The class will be 2 sessions for 1 1/2 hours each.

The Finer Elements of Machine Quilting – Helen Butler
Date and Price to Be Determined

Quilting on your home machine is an acquired skill that takes practice. In this class we will learn the basic elements of machine quilting through a series of lessons such as a variety of background fills, trapunto feathers, circles, spirals, headbands, peacock feathers, crosshatching, and many other elements. You will become proficient as we learn the many options available to beautify your quilts.

This class will be scheduled as soon as 12 interested students sign up. It will be either a six-hour daytime class with three hours in the morning, a lunch break, and three hours in the afternoon, or it will be a three hour class in the evening. If the evening class is what we end up doing, we will be able to cover less material, but you will still get a good solid foundation for quilting on your home

It will be available later for a cost of $10. 2 7/8 yards of backing fabric may be ordered at time of signup for $22.99. ½ yard of binding may also be ordered for $3.99. Order now to guarantee matching fabric. Buy it later at full price, and find your own backing and binding.

*Remember the Rules: If you bring in your completed block on the designated day the next month, you get your new block free. If your block is not finished, or you don’t come in on the right day, you pay $5.
