On the design wall we had some of the blocks made by our 4 Farmer’s Wife teachers:

The top two rows (modern prints) were made by Alice.  The next three rows (30′s reproduction prints) were made by Linda.  The next 3 rows (red and white fabrics) were made by Amber.  And the last two rows (civil war fabrics) were made by Eva.  These 4 ladies taught a different technique each month, including template piecing and paper piecing.   Everyone who participated learned a lot and should consider themselves to be a very knowledgeable quilter!

We had several ladies that are just about done.  They showed us their favorite blocks:

It’s always fun to get together as quilters and share in each other’s talents.  It was an inspirational evening and we all felt a great sense of accomplishment as we recognized our hard work and the many hours spent on our Farmer’s Wife quilts this year!

We had so much fun last year that we have decided that we will be doing another round of our Farmer’s Wife club (starting soon)!  You set your own goal of how many blocks you plan on making each month and pick out your own fabrics.  Then you’ll come once a month for a short demonstration on a different technique that will be used that month.  If you are interested in participating please call the store for more details: 801-492-7929.   We will be sending out an email soon to everyone who is listed on our interest sheet.

A 12-month BOM project

Cost: $40 + $5 a month or $85 if paid in full (which saves you $15!)

Cost includes pattern, blocks, sashing and inner border.

Participants will purchase their own border and binding (floral and stripe are available) as well as the backing

Fall 2012 Class Schedule

We are excited to announce that we are teaming up with The Sewing
Academy to bring children’s sewing classes to Just Sew! Children and teens love to express their creativity by sewing clothing they can wear, and they are learning a valuable life-long skill. You will be delighted how quickly your child can pick up the skills associated with sewing, and have FUN in the process.

• One sewing machine per student
• Classes are for 6 years old and older
• Small class sizes – 8 students maximum
• Holiday/Summer camps
• $15 per hour, $12.50 with friend or $10 perstudent if signed up with 2 or
  more friends
• Weekly, every-other-week, monthly, and on-demand classes available
• Students provide their own fabric and thread and use our sewing machines and
  supplies. (Just Sew will be giving a 20% discount to students on their fabric!)

Peppermint Frenzy – Vonda
Tuesdays, October 16 & 30, November 6 – 2:00-3:30 p.m.

$15 for one session, $30 for all 3

Learn three techniques and end up with a fantastic
table runner or wall hanging. You can take all three sessions to make the table
runner, or pick one session only for practice with a particular
technique:

October 16: We will learn to make pinwheels,
stitching and pressing for the most precision product.

October 30: Learn how to make the scallop border on the peppermint fizz quilt or a quilt of your choice. You will learn how to use this technique on any quilt of your choice. It is an applique technique, either hand or machine.

November 6: Learn how to add piping to your bindings or borders. Learn how to use the piping ruler to make your own piping.

Script Applique – Vonda
Thursday, October 25 – 2:00-3:30 p.m. $15

Learn to put words on your quilts. This method is done with needle-turn applique. Learn how to get the fonts off the computer, enlarge and get ready to applique. A kit can be purchased for $6 for the “JOY” pillow or you can bring your own project.

Paper Piecing Basics – Alice
Thursday, October 25 – 10:00-11:30 a.m.

Does paper piecing intimidate you? Once you learn a few basic techniques, you will have confidence to tackle many different paper-piecing projects. In this 90 minute class, we will go over the basics and make three different paper-pieced pincushions.

Stenciled Silhouette Pillow – Alice

Stenciled Pillows are popping up everywhere! Alice will show you how easy it is to make your own with a freezer paper stencil and a little craft paint. We will provide a pattern for the bird silhouette, or get creative and bring your own silhouette stencil.

A new twist on an old favorite! Use a quick-turn method to make this fabulous hot pad that is sure to dress up any kitchen! Great for teacher or neighbor gifts!

Lined Christmas Stockings – Linda

This is a quick and easy method for making lined Christmas stockings. The stocking, lining, and cuff are made in one easy step. All you need is a fat quarter for the stocking and another for the lining. Make them small to stuff a quick gift in or large enough for Santa to fill.

In this class, Eva will be teaching a series of quilting techniques, including precision piecing, binding, paper piecing, and more. Fine-tune your quilting skills with a master teacher as your guide! The Finer Elements of Machine Quilting – Helen Butler
Date and Price to Be Determined

Quilting on your home machine is an acquired skill that takes practice. In this class we will learn the basic elements of machine quilting through a series of lessons such as a variety of background fills, trapunto feathers, circles, spirals, headbands, peacock feathers, crosshatching, and many other elements. You will become proficient as we learn the many options available to beautify your quilts.

This class will be scheduled as soon as 12 interested students sign up. It will be either a six-hour daytime class with three hours in the morning, a lunch break, and three hours in the afternoon, or it will be a three hour class in the evening. If the evening class is what we end up doing, we will be able to cover less material, but you will still get a good solid foundation for quilting on your home
machine.

The first is “Find Joy Every Day,” a 10″ x 13″ wall hanging that you can frame. (Frame is not included). Everything on this project will be fusible (except the button, which you will tie on with ric-rac). The second is an Anthropologie-Style necklace made from no-sew fabric flowers. You provide a 30″ chain (available at most craft stores or anywhere jewelry-making supplies are sold) and we’ll provide the rest.
